Mike Brady

1924-1937

Winged Foot’s first golf professional was noted player Mike Brady, whose competitive record included runner-up finishes in the 1911 and 1919 U.S. Open Championships. Brady’s tenure lasted until the late 1930’s, when the Club hired PGA Tour great Craig Wood as Head Professional.

Craig Wood

1938-1945

In the late 1930's, the Club hired PGA Tour great Craig Wood as Head Professional. Craig Wood won the Masters and US Open in 1941, giving the Club three major championships – including Dick Chapman’s U.S. Amateur victory in 1940 – in less than a year. Wood retired from the club in 1945.

Claude Harmon

1946-1977

In 1946, the club hired the popular and successful professional, Claude Harmon. Harmon cemented his place in Golf history with his win in the 1948 Masters, making him the last Club Professional to win a Major Championship. Harmon and Assistant Professional Mike Souchak nearly won on their home course in the 1959 U.S. Open Championship, tying for third place behind winner Billy Casper. While at Winged Foot, Claude Harmon nurtured the careers of his sons Butch, Craig and Bill, each of whom ranks among golf’s greatest teachers. Harmon’s legendry tenure as Winged Foot’s head pro lasted until 1978.

Tom Nieporte

1978-2006

PGA professional Tom Nieporte came on board in 1978 and capably filled his predecessor’s role until retirement in 2006. Nieporte continued Winged Foot’s tradition of club pro greatness, winning the 1967 Bob Hope Desert Classic, making him the last club professional to win on Tour.

John Buczek

2007-2009

Tom Nieporte was succeeded by former Winged Foot assistant pro John Buczek from 2006 – 2008.

Mike Gilmore

2010-Present

In 2008, Mike Gilmore was named Winged Foot’s sixth Head Professional. Boasting a stellar career as a Met Section stand-out, and having appeared in several U.S. Opens and PGA Championships, Gilmore extends and enhances Winged Foot’s tradition of exceptional Golf Professionals.
